Hurm not selected for Urbandale, Iowa job

Austin City Administrator Jim Hurm has not been selected for a city manager position in Urbandale, Iowa.

According to the Des Moines Register, the Urbandale City Council offered the position to Muscatine (Iowa) City Manager A.J. Johnson on Tuesday. Johnson has accepted the offer, the Register said.

Hurm was one of five finalists for the position, including Timothy Zisoff, Indianola (Iowa) city manager; Cara Pavlicek, interim department manager in Oak Park, Ill.; and John Pick, city manager in Salisbury, Md. Sixty-five people applied for the job.

When interviewed for a video on the Register Web site, Hurm said: “I’ve done my research, and I’m very excited about what’s happening here in Urbandale.”

He has been city administrator in Austin since 2003.

Hurm said today he has no comment.
