The Hayfield baseball team hit a slight speed bump in a 13-7 win over seventh-seeded Kenyon/Wanamingo in the first round of the Subsection 1A West Division playoffs Tuesday at Riverland.

The No. 2 seeded Vikings (12-9 overall) were out-hit 11-9, but they took advantage of a rash of K/W errors to get the win. Hayfield starter Tyler Krekling was relieved after allowing seven hits and seven walks in just under six innings of work.

“It has to be a wake up call for us or we might be in trouble because Southland (who Hayfield plays Thursday at 5 p.m.) will be ready to play,” Hayfield head coach Craig Selk said.
