Salvation Army Austin Corps volunteers are on the scene in the Fargo-Moorhead area, fighting flooding.

According to Major Marlys Anderson, officer in charge, Tammy Flicek and Bridget Konken left Thursday morning to assist volunteers in the disaster area.

Flicek is volunteer coordinator and disaster services coordinator for the Austin Corps. Konken is the assistant office manager.

They will work under the supervision of Salvation Army disaster services supervisors in the Red River Valley area.

Anderson speculated their duties could be manning the Salvation Army canteen services for relief workers as well as other responsibilities.

They will return to Austin April 30.

Grand opening

The officer in charge also announced the public is invited to a grand-re-opening of the Family Thrift Store at the corner of Fourth Street and Second Avenue Northeast at the Austin corps headquarters and community center.

The ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. Monday.

The Family Thrift Store was closed for a week, while the remodeling took place at the business.

No longer is the downtown Family Thrift Store the collection center for donations.

That has been moved to a building at 704 10th St. N.E., where the Austin Corps operates a new sorting center.

The familiar Salvation Army red shield sign denotes where the building is located.

Monday’s grand re-opening will include the debut of special sales for all items, Anderson said.

Refreshments will be served afterward. For more information, call the Salvation Army at 437-4566.
