Marcella M. Hjelmen, 86
Marcella M. Hjelmen, 86, died early in the morning on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at St. Mark’s Nursing Home in Austin.
Marcella was born Marcella Kolpin on Nov. 17, 1922 in Austin, Minnesota the daughter of William and Lillian (Soucek) Kolpin. She married Ewald Kohlwes, and he preceded her in death. She later married Howard Hjelmen. He also preceded her in death. Marcella was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin. She enjoyed making her house a home, and her life centered around her daughters Karen and Cheryl, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, making soup, and crocheting afghans.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Roger) Jacobs and Cheryl (Donald) Anderson; grandchildren, Brian (Diane) Jacobs, Michael (Dana) Jacobs and Valerie (Jeff) Perry, Wade (Sara) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Brady and Bridget Jacobs, Riley, Carter and Crosby Perry, Sophia and Maxwell Anderson; step-great-grandchildren, Brianna, Ryan and Brittany Carter; sister, Winifred Owens and a brother, Donald Kolpin.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husbands, Ewald Kohlwes and Howard Hjelmen; great-granddaughter, Ellie Perry, brother, Maynard Kolpin and sister, Mildred Cooper. Family Memorial Services for Marcella will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin.
