A cause is still being determined for a fire that consumed a rural LeRoy home Monday.

Mower County deputies, along with LeRoy and Chester, Iowa firefighters, were called to the home of Richard Elton Whipple, 77870 State Line Rd., in LeRoy Township after a neighbor reported the fire at around 8:10 a.m.

Whipple was at work in Spring Valley when Fillmore County Sheriff’s Department contacted him about the fire.

While it appears the fire started in the center of the house, the state fire marshall was on the way to investigate.

The house is thought to be a total loss.
