Rose Creek and Lyle Fire Department responded Thursday to a barn fire near Rose Creek that claimed several farm implements and all-terrain vehicles.

The fire, which started in the barn on the Alan and Brenda Mandt residence at 15714 610th Ave. about 5 p.m., was noticed by the couple’s 15-year-old son, who according to the Mower County Sheriff’s Office reports, saw a battery charger on an ATV.

The son called Alan Mandt, who was working in the field, telling him of the fire. According to the report, the battery charger may have been the initial cause with the fire possibly moving to some nearby hay.
