The Hayfield Fire Department responded to a brush fire in rural Waltham Thursday afternoon.

The fire was called in by Lowell Anderson, 81 at 31582 605th Ave., at about 2:15 p.m.

According to the Mower County Sheriff’s Department, Anderson returned to the property to find a woodpile near a residence on fire and spreading north toward a small wooded area.

He said nobody had been at the residence all day, but that there was a campfire near the wood fire on Saturday, April 11.

Austin city reminds residence of burn ban

Austin police are reminding citizens the city falls under the burn restrictions in southeastern Minnesota. People are not allowed to have any kind of campfire during the restriction.

The current restriction stands until the area receives measurable rainfall.
