Allen John Frank, 59, of Austin, died Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester due to complications from surgery the week prior.
He was born Oct. 21, 1949 in Mankato to Allen Frank and Margaret (Rebhahn) Frank and grew up in Austin. He married Susan Lauritzen on April 19, 1969. During the Vietnam War, he served in the 101st Airborne Division where he received numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star medal.
He enjoyed a 40-year career with Hormel Foods, the majority of which was spent in Austin with the exception of eight years in Iowa.
Allen was an avid gardener and also enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Survivors include wife: Susan Frank, Austin; sons: Joseph (Kelli) Frank, Eldridge, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Maria) Frank, Pasadena, Calif.; grandsons: Brady, Cooper and Griffin; mother and stepfather: Margaret and Mike Downey, Austin; sister: Ella Rezabek-Turner, Wahpeton, N.D.; sister: Adele (Alan) Kimpell, Minnetonka, Minn.; sister: Sandra (Bill) Lynd, Earlville, Ill.; brother: Michael (Jolene) Frank, Fort Mill, S.C.; sister: Margaret (Rick) Hardy, Santa Barbara, Calif.; brother: James (Kristi) Frank, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen J. Frank.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m., Monday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be Jerry Butlin, Mike Lauritzen, Jim Perrin, Alan Kimpell, Bill Lynd, Mike Frank, Jim Frank, Jerry Grimm, Randy Blazer, Jim Kenyon, Quin Johnson and Stan Rasmussen.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91. Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
