Library to host book sale, exhibit

The Austin Public Library’s spring book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The sale is open to everyone.

There is no Friends of the Austin Public Library pre-sale at the annual spring book sale.

The event is co-sponsored by the Friends organization and the American Association of University Women.

The popular “bag sale” begins at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Unsold books will remain on sale at the library through April 6.

Money raised at the weekend spring book sale will be split between the sponsoring organizations.

The library will host an open house for Maureen Steenblock from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 8. Steenblock is retiring after serving as children’s library since 1980.

A Smithsonian exhibit exploring the life of legendary baseball player, Roberto Clemente, will be on display at Austin Public Library April 13 through June 7.

The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours.

Dan Conradt, KAAL-TV reporter, will speak on the significance of Clemente at a grand opening reception for the exhibit at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.

The event is also free and open to the public.

Austin is the only Minnesota stop for the bilingual panel exhibit.

Coming Thursday, April 30, author Leif Enger for the 2009 Austin Page Turners citywide reading event.

Enger has written “Peace Like A River” and “So Brave, Young and Handsome.”

The public is invited to meet the author at a reception, beginning at 7 p.m., April 30 at Austin Public Library.
