LETTER: Reader disagrees with column

This letter is written in response to an article by Shari Mason printed on Feb. 27.

Shari Mason is painting a sort of formless picture where no matter what sort of belief system one holds to be true, the important thing is getting along with everyone. What Shari is promoting here is Universalism (all people will be saved regardless of what they believe). This message is not only un-Lutheran, but anti-Christian. It contradicts the foundational message of Christianity-salvation from sin through the death of Jesus on the cross.

God, in His word, speaks with unmistakable clarity in regard to what one must believe to be saved:

John 8:12- Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

True Christians, out of the deepest love for their fellow man, will be compelled to pass on the message that Christ Himself left heaven to tell us. This message is not about some sort of earthly peace and unity, but eternal peace with God through Christ’s suffering and death on the cross for our sins. This is the message that will connect our fellow man to the only true lifesource there is.
