Bissen Bash fundraiser March 1

The third-annual Dan Bissen Memorial Bash will be held Sunday, March 1 at the Paramount Theatre, Austin.

The performances begin at 2 p.m.

After Dan Bissen died of brain cancer his memory spawned growth of a popular fundraising event each March.

The Austin businessman, his wife, Margo, and their children entertained Austin audience through the years, supported arts and entertainment in the community and were involved in community betterment projects, too.

The concert will benefit a scholarship fund at Austin High School and the Paramount Theatre.

Bissen family members will be joined by members of Austin Public Schools’ music department, current and former staff and students and area vocalists and musicians will perform.

The original Bissen Bash was held in 2006 and attracted the largest crowd in the history of the Paramount Theatre.

This year’s concert will feature current high school music talent, including a men’s vocal sextet, women’s vocal quartet and several instrumental performers also.

The Bissen Family Singers headline the concert: Margo, Ray, Tony, Tim, Molly and Mary.

Among other family groups performing will be the Koser family: Brian, Pam, David and Jon; the Kroc family: Joe, Cece, Joey, Erin and Lindsey; and the Zink family: Terrence, Terri Jo, Ari and Chris.

Kaye and Jenae Perry and Sue Radloff and Brenda Lund are mother-daughter duos slated to perform.

Brian and Ethan Johnson are a father-son duo on the schedule of performers. Kevin and Laura Berdine are a husband and wife cello duo.

Siblings Courtney and Kelsey Fleming will also be featured.

Sumner Elementary School, where Margo Bissen teaches, will be represented.

Scott and Janet Anderson, “Mr. and Mrs. Paramount Theatre,” will be on the program.

Adult tickets for the March Dan Bissen Memorial Bash are $10 and students are $5.

They can be purchased in advance at Hardy Geranium, Hy-Vee and the Paramount Theatre box office 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
