James W. “Jim” Bergstrom, 59
James W. “Jim” Bergstrom, 59, of Austin died on Jan. 19, 2009 at his home in Austin.
He was born May 3, 1949 in Austin to Richard and Eunice (Underland) Bergstrom. Jim attended school in Oakland Minnesota and graduated from Austin High School. He served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970. He worked as a chef at several area restaurants and had also owned and operated restaurants in Austin and Albert Lea before going to work as a letter carrier for the US Postal Department. Jim enjoyed going to Jennifer’s gymnastic meets, motorcycling and boating along the Mississippi River. He also liked spending time with his niece and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and his daily trips to Kenny’s Oak Grill, spending time visiting and drinking coffee with his buddies.
Jim is survived by his sister, Judy (Gerald) Mittag, Wabasha, MINN.; sister-in-law and husband: Jeanne (Bergstrom) and Ron Wangen, Oakland, Minn.; special friend, Penny Boyle, Austin, and her children, Steven and Jennifer Boyle, Austin; niece, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin with Austin American Legion Post #91 in charge of military rites. Visitation will be at St. Olaf Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The organist will be Neal Erickson with soloist, Erin Schumacher. Casket Bearers will be Brian Draayer, Steven Kuettner, John Bergstrom, Jeremy Bergstrom, Steven Boyle and Gabe Kuettner.
