BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The Awesome Blossom girls basketball team got off to a slow start in Friday night’s game but rebounded quickly to thrill the home town crowd with their 13th win of the season, taking Alden-Conger 59-46 Friday.
The Knights (10-9 overall, 5-5 Valley Conference) jumped out on BP (13-2 overall, 8-2 Gopher Conference) very quickly with a 7-0 lead.
Even though it took the Blossoms a few minutes to get on track, the score was quickly in their favor 24-11.
The A-C girls went on nearly a seven minute shooting drought.
At halftime BP led by 12 with a score of 32-20.
In the second half, the Blossoms immediately took over and increased their lead to 23 points with the help of Katelin Strand who knocked down three shots from behind the three point arc.
“Katelin really put up some nice shoots,” BP head coach John Worke said.
Coach Worke said that he is always pleased with how the girls perform anytime he sees that there three or four of his players in double figures.
Kassie Lueth, Marie Morem and Katelin Strand were the three in double figures Friday with Resha Koster bumping up next to the double figure with nine points.
“Overall we shot well again tonight,” Worke said. “We started out in a zone defense but when we got behind we switched quickly to man to man.”
Alden-Conger was able to stay in the game by pushing the ball right at the heart of the Blossoms’ defense and they were able to get to the foul line 27 times, converting 16 of those into points.
The Blossoms’ game consisted of more of an outside shooting game and was only at the foul line nine times in the game, making six of their shots.
“This was a good way to end a three game week for us,” Worke said. “Next week we play three games again starting off against Kenyon then its Loyola and NRHEG.”
