Area grads holding their own on college teams

A few area graduates are off to successful starts in their college seasons.

Tim Kirby, a graduate of Austin High School, has played in all 16 games for the Air Force Academy men’s hockey team this season.

Kirby, a freshman defenseman at AFA, is still looking for his first goal after attempting 19 shots, but he has four assists and Air Force is +7 when he’s on the ice.

The Falcons are off to a 14-2 start.

Kristin Faber, a 2007 Austin grad, is making herself known in her sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Faber leads the Blugolds in goals (6), assists (9), and points (15) after 11 games.

Taylor Jenkins, a 2008 Austin grad, has two goals and one assist in 11 games for the Blugolds.

UW-EC is off to a 6-3-2 start.

Leslie Wilson, a 2008 Hayfield grad, has started nine games and played in all ten contests for the Wartburg women’s basketball team.

Wilson leads the Knights in steals (1.9 per game) and is second in field goal percentage (47 percent).

She is averaging 5.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, with a 1.5 assist to turnover ratio.

The Knights are off to a 6-4 start.
