Stephen C. Wright, 86
Stephen Crane Wright, 86, died at Presbyterian Homes in Roseville, Minn., on Nov. 22, 2008 with his wife Shirley at his side.
He was born in Austin, on Oct. 12, 1922. Graduated AHS, 1940, and  graduated from Austin Junior College in 1942. Stephen Married Shirley Armstrong on Feb., 1944. He was a veteran of World War II, as a 1st Lt. in the Army Air Corps, serving 16 months in the Pacific. He returned to attend Iowa State University, later beingiInducted into Tau Beta Pi (1946) and Pi Tau Sigma(1946). After he graduated 1947 with degree in mechanical engineering, Stephen worked at Hormel in for 40+ years, designing refrigeration systems for Hormel plants nationwide. He retired in 1987.  Stephen was a servant to the community: serving as a member of the Park and Recreation Board, Y’s Men, R.O.A.R. and the American Legion. He was a church moderator and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was also a Former member (1967 to 1979) and President of the School Board of Austin Public Schools.
He is survived by loving wife of 64 years, Shirley, Roseville, Minn.; daughter, Janette (Paul) Jones, Ft. Collins, Colo.; sons, George (Grace),  Charlie (Suzann) and Phil, all three of the Twin Cities; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia Gerbl, La Selva Beach, Calif.; brothers, William, Eden Prairie, Minn., and Frank, Northfield, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Arthur and Florence Wright and son John Stephen Wright. 
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, at the First Congregational Church in Austin, with a luncheon to follow. Memorials are prefered to R.O.A.R., the First Congregational Church of Austin or the American Cancer Society (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave. Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245). No flowers please.
