Roy Torgerson

Roy LaVerne Torgerson, 87, of Adams, died on Dec. 7, 2008 at Adams Health Care Center.
He was born May 17, 1921 in Austin, to Nordeen and Nora (Johnson) Torgerson. Roy graduated from Adams Public Schools and attended St. Olaf College for one year. In 1942, Roy joined the US Navy, where he served aboard 4 different ships, one of which, the U.S.S Zane, was torpedoed and sank; all crew members were rescued by the U.S.S. Hornet. After the war Roy married Lorraine Uglum at the Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams in the spring of 1947. Roy and Lorraine raised one son, Roy, Jr. and four foster children, Michael, Kevin, Tom and Manda Ness. Roy spent most of his life in the grocery business. Roy was a member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church and the Adams Post #146, American Legion.
 Roy is survived by his son, Roy L. Torgerson, Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.; sister, Dorothy Smith, Queensbury, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Muriel Torgerson, Springfield, Ill.; Inez Schissel, Adams, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; brother, Vance and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Reverend Shari Mason officiating. Interment will be held at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery in Adams with Adams Post #146 American Legion in charge of military rites. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Memorials are preferred to Little Cedar Lutheran Church or Adams Health Care Center Activity Fund.
