LETTER: Relay for Life is a worthy cause

The American Cancer Society Mower County Relay For Life Committee has put together another beautiful Wall Calendar for 2009 with the help of Brian Haldorson from Diamond Ridge Printing of Austin.

We are honored this year to have a watercolor print by local Brownsdale artist Sally Gerhart grace our front cover.

The setting is Mill Pond and the Relay For Life event, complete with Sally’s own personalized luminary. Sally is a two-time cancer survivor, having first been diagnosed 32 years ago, and then again two years ago, and is now cancer free. She was also involved in a 20-year protocol study through the Mayo clinic.

The print is absolutely gorgeous and is suitable for framing. We thank Sally for her gracious donation.

The calendar also highlights the 30-plus teams that participated, as well as the many activities and sights of the evening, including the Survivor Walk, Entertainment and late night activities.

The 2008 Mower County Relay For Life event was a resounding success, having surpassed its goal by almost $13,000.

Cancer is not ready to go away just yet; we still have a lot of work to do. We invite you to help the 2009 Mower County Relay For Life planning committee in this fight against cancer.
