Man hurt in fall

Jesse Ryan Ree, 27 of Austin suffered injuries when he fell from the first floor of a new home under construction to the basement.

According to a Mower County Sheriff’s Department report, the accident occurred near 1:45 p.m. Monday at a construction site north of Racine and east of U.S. Highway 63.

The Grand Meadow and Stewartville ambulance services responded to the emergency.

Ree apparently fell through a hole in the home’s first floor where a stairway to the basement was to be built.

Grand Meadow Police Chief James Richardson also responded to the emergency and lifted the injured construction worker from the basement through a window and to the ground outside the home where emergency medical technicians treated him.

He landed on his head and shoulders and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, by a Grand Meadow ambulance crew.
