Dorothy A. Kos, 94, of Faribault died on Oct. 7, 2008 at the District One Hospital in Faribault.
Dorothy Alice Prusha, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Powell) Prusha, was born on Sept. 22, 1914 in Davenport, Iowa. She was married to Frank Kos on Sept. 19, 1932 in Owatonna, Minn. Dorothy and Frank farmed for many years in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. They also owned and operated Roy’s Hamburger Home in Owatonna for 14 years. Upon retiring in 1972, they moved to Kelly Lake in rural Rice County. Frank preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1991. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, reading books, baking sweet breads and sharing her baked goods and books with others. She was a devoted member of Little Prairie United Methodist Church for 40 years and was an active member at the Faribault Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two children, Delano and Alice Marie; sister, Bonnie Vavra and brother, Dale Prusha.
She is survived by seven children, Daryl (Donna) Kos, New Cambria, Minn., Gale (Shirlee) Kos, Claremont, Minn., Gladys (Gordon) Rassman, Owatonna, Minn., Gary (Judith) Kos, Rochester, Minn., Judy (Bob) Derrickson, Kieler, Wis., Betty (William) Hoover, Dundas, Minn. and Patty Olson (special friend, Harry Chappuis), Faribault; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Little Prairie United Methodist Church in Dundas, Minn., with the Reverend Gordon Deuel, officiating. Interment will be at the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Little Prairie United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home of Faribault. For a guestbook and information visit
