Marian E. Goodew, 91
Marian Eunice Goodew, 91, of Austin died on Sept. 1, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Marian was born Jan. 2, 1917 in Winnebago, Minn., to Herbert and Sarah (Groppel) Ferguson. She lived in Winnebago during her younger years and attended Winnebago Public Schools. Marian had five sisters and two brothers. On Aug. 24, 1935 she married Cecil Fitzgerald and gave birth to a daughter, Peggy on Nov. 26, 1936. During World War II, Marian and her family lived in California where she worked in the shipyards while her husband was at war. The family then moved to Austin where she remained. Marian later divorced Cecil and married Robert Goodew on Oct. 4, 1952.
Marian enjoyed reading books, drinking coffee and visiting with her family. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Robert, until his death on Aug. 23, 1993.
Survivors include three grandsons: Cecil (Jacky) Hatfield, Austin, Mark (Karen) Hatfield, Austin, and Allan (Wanda) Hatfield, North Branch; granddaughter, Penny Skauge, Austin; two great-grandsons: Dan and Dean; three great-granddaughters: Jennifer, Heather and Holly; two great-great-grandsons: Darrell and Eli; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend, Jim Sybilrud, Austin.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Sarah; siblings: Violet, Hazel, Mae, Bessie, Ines, Bernard and Clarence; daughter, Peggy Skauge; grandson, Eli; and great-granddaughter, Brandy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at Mayer Funeral Home with Pastor Dale R. Christiansen of Crane Community Chapel officiating. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday and one hour before the service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
