Margaret Chaffree, 85
Margaret (Marge) F. Chaffee, 85, of Austin died on Sept. 12, 2008 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester after a short illness.
She was born July 25, 1923 in Albert Lea to Walter and Agnes Morrison. She grew up in Albert Lea where she graduated from high school. Margaret then attended school in Minneapolis to become a hair stylist.
On Jan. 8, 1942 she married Robert (Bob) K. Chaffee in Albert Lea. The couple moved to Texas and Kansas while Bob served in the military during WW II. After his discharge, the couple moved to Austin where Marge was a homemaker. In 1980, after Bob’s retirement from Hormel, the couple moved to Arizona and returned to Minnesota in 1990. Bob died March 19, 1991.
Marge’s passion was playing golf. She won many tournaments in the southern Minnesoat area. She also enjoyed spending time at her daughter and son-in-law’s cabin in northern Minnesota.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Chafee, Boulder, Colo. and Michelle (Mickey) Bakken and son-in-law, Perry Bakken, Rochester; nephew, Richard (Colette) Chaffee, Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Leo.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal and Father Paul Nelson officiating. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and 6:30 p.m. wake service on Tuesday evening at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The family will also greet friends at a luncheon immediately following the service at the church on Wednesday.
