Dennis E. Schwerdtfeger, 66
Dennis Eugene Schwerdtfeger, 66, of Braham, Minn., formerly of Rochester, died on Sept. 26, 2008 from cancer.
Dennis was born on April 9, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa, to Eugene and Agnes Schwerdtfeger. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Army, and was later involved in the Vietnam War. Dennis moved to California where he resided after discharge from the service. In July of 1969, he married Mary Lou Hanson. They moved to Elkton, Minn., and resided there for more than 20 years. They later were divorced. He then lived in Rochester until his retirement from Crenlo, LLC, where he worked for 30 years.
In 2003, he moved to the Braham/Mora area, where he spent time fishing on the many nearby lakes. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and spending time with family and friends. His friendly gesture of “Have you had one of these lately?” will be missed by many.
Survivors include two daughters: Stacy Tapp (Dale Kiehne), Rochester, Stefani (Wade) Schultz, Braham; son, Michael (Michelle) Schwerdtfeger, Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Courtney, Alicia and Rayce Tapp, Larissa Heyer, Avery Nystel and Grace Schultz, and Milada Chavez and Audrey Schwerdtfeger; mother, Agnes Schwerdtfeger, California; three sisters: Linda (Mike) Callecod, Indiana, Laura (Gary) Smuts, California and Louise Gibson, California; two brothers: Patrick (Jana) Schwerdtfeger, California and Richard (Rhonda) Schwerdtfeger, Tennessee; nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at People of Hope ELCA in Rochester, 3703 Country Club Rd. S.W. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be no reviewal. Inurnment will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens. People of Hope helping with arrangements. Memorials can be sent to the church Friday until 5 p.m. and Saturday between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Sharing of memories and stories during service requested.
