Stanley Lee Stephenson, 72, of rural Austin, died on Aug. 27, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Stan was born April 4, 1936 outside of Swaledale, Iowa to Benjamin and Louina (Jordahl) Stephenson. He graduated from Riceville High School in 1954 and attended the University of Iowa. On Nov. 8, 1957 he was united in marriage to Jane Srnec in Winona.
Stan worked with his father Benjamin starting in 1962 in the Federal Crop Program and remained in this occupation, as a crop insurance agent, until his death. His interests included NASCAR, building and flying radio control airplane models.
Survivors include his wife: Jane Stephenson, Austin, Minn.; children: Julie Stephenson, Austin, Dennis and Ann (Tubbs) Stephenson, Austin, Minn., Karen Stephenson, Austin, Minn., William Stephenson (Jeanne Blaser), Austin, Minn., Janine (Brian) Nordland, Owatonna, Minn., Janice (Joel) Maxfield, Sparta, Wis.; grandchildren: Adam Stephenson, Caitlin Stephenson, Erik Stephenson, Joe Stephenson, Jacob Nordland, Brynn Nordland, Andy Maxfield; siblings: Lee (Mary Lou) Stephenson, Mason City, Iowa, Barbara (Fred) Haven, Riverside, Calif., Donna (Chuck) Kidder, Riverside, Calif.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Louina Stephenson; brothers, Lyle Stephenson and Robert Stephenson; granddaughter, Cassandra Jane Nordland; in laws, William and Eva Srnec.
Private graveside services will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at Grandview Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home and also from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the St. Edward’s Church family room. The casket bearers will be Denny Stephenson, Willy Stephenson, Joel Maxfield, Brian Nordland, Adam Stephenson and Joe Stephenson.
