Leola M. Matter, 89, of Waltham, Minn., died on on Aug. 4, 2008 at St. Marys Medical Center in Duluth, Minn.
Leola was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Linda (Groth) Frese. She attended Osage schools. She married Harold Howe on Feb. 5, 1938 in Charles City, Iowa. He died March 16, 1963. She later married Arnold Matter on December 19, 1971 at St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Waltham.
Leola worked as a waitress in Lyle, Minn., and St. Ansgar, Iowa. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time in the summer at their cabin on Lake Vermillion. She was a member of the St. Michaels Lutheran Church.
Leola is survived by her husband, Arnold; son, James Howe, St. Ansgar; daughter, Linda (Gary) Bork, St. Ansgar; sister, Fern Erickson, Monona, Iowa; six grandcildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Howe; sister, Verna Olson and great-grandson, Jordan Howe.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2008 at St. Michaels Lutheran Church in rural Waltham with the Reverend John Heruth officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield, is in charge of arrangements.
