Genevieve D. Johnson, 93
Genevieve D. Johnson, 93, of Austin, died on Aug. 16, 2008, at Austin Medical Center. Genevieve Deloris Schubert was born April 18, 1915 in Canton, Minn., to Edward Paul and Hilda Claudine (Nupson) Schubert. Following graduation from Austin High School, she married Alfred Johnson on Aug. 6, 1933 in Glenville. They raised three children, Jerome, Terry, and Brian. Gen was a homemaker, worked at an insurance office and was the cafeteria manager at Austin Public Schools for 22 years. Her husband, Alfred, died on Jan. 30, 1999. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Gen liked reading, handwork and especially enjoyed fishing. She made numerous baptismal napkins for St. Olaf Church and knit baby caps for St. Olaf Hospital.
She is survived by her children, Jerome (Gloria) Johnson, Las Vegas, Nev., Terry Johnson, San Jose, Calif., Brian (Sally) Johnson, Duluth, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Nelson, Austin; sisters-in-law, Esther Torgerson, Woodbury; Grace Johnson, Austin; brother-in-law, Emory Johnson, Austin; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alfred.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating. Visitation is from 4 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church Wee Learning Center or St. Olaf Lutheran Church Capital Fund Campaign.
