Dorothy V. Rochford, 97
Dorothy Viletta Rochford, 97, of Austin, died on Aug. 9, 2008 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
Dorothy was born June 2, 1911 in Mason City, Iowa to William and Eleanor (McClelland) Placek. In 1929 she graduated from Austin High School. On June 9, 1949 she was united in marriage to Durward Rochford and they were married for 26 years before his death on Sept. 13, 1975.
Dorothy was a retired bookkeeper, having worked at Leuthold’s Clothing store. Dorothy loved to travel and in 1993 she went to China. She enjoyed fishing, dancing in her younger years, playing cards with friends, reading, listening to music and watching sports. Dorothy greatly enjoyed her outings to the casino and lakes. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include many cousins and friends, as well as a special cousin, Babe and her family.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eleanor Placek and sister, Harriet Placek.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
The casket bearers will be Marcia Ferguson, Monica Rollie, Margie Bednar, Steve Michels, Michele Johnson, Melody Barnes, Marie Stewart and Marlene LeBarron.
