William J. “Bill” King, 79
William John “Bill” King, 79, died at his home in Austin on July 7, 2008. He was born Nov. 4, 1928 in Lodi Township, Minn., to John and Genevieve (Durnin) King. He married Ilene Beverly Sorenson on Oct. 30, 1953 in Austin where they made their home and raised three children. Bill served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. A lifetime member of VFW and American Legion, he worked at Austin Cashway Lumber which later became United Building Center. After retiring from UBC, he worked part time at McDonald’s. He enjoyed fishing, gambling and most of all, his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Ilene; two sons, William A. “Bill” (Sheila) King, David King; daughter, Diane King Johnson (Custer), all of Austin; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Lou) King, Austin; James (Norma) King, Rochester; sisters, Louise Kiefer, Orlando, Fla.; Dorothy (Glen) Frazer, LeRoy; Betty (Leonard) Duryee, Leland, Iowa and Ann Olson of Henderson, Nevada; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and one aunt, Alvina Lewison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeremy King; sister, Mary and brother, Larry.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, 204 First Avenue NW in Austin, with The Reverend David DeFor officiating. Visitation is from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2008 at Worlein Funeral Home, 1801 Fourth Street NW, Austin, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment is at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams, with military rites by American Legion Post 91. Memorials are preferred to the family.
