It’s “to grandmother’s house we go” for the next production this season of Summerset Theatre.

A six-member cast debuts the light-hearted comedy “Over the River and Through the Woods” Wednesday.

“The main character, Nick, is remembering the last couple weeks he spent with his grandparents,” explains director Shane May.

Each Sunday, Nick visits his Italian-American family for dinner, and when they find out he plans to move from New Jersey for a dream job, “They invite a nice young lady (Caitlin) over to make him fall in love,” May said.

The cast consists of “very talented actors; they’ve all been on stage before,” he said, including Penny Kinney as Emma; David Dahlquist as Nunzio; William Hoy as Frank; Robert Johnson as Nick; Justine Johnson as Caitlin; and Krista Johnson as Aida.

May has 13 years of acting experience, and has even started his own theater companies.

“Over the River and Through the Woods” opens at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Frank W. Bridges Theatre at Riverland Community College, and runs each evening through Saturday. Tickets are $12 ($10 for children 16 and under) and may be purchased at the Coffee House on Main and the Riverland Theatre Box Office. Summerset Theatre box office hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before performances. Call the box office at 433-0595.
