ROSE CREEK – The 2001 Rose Creek Fun Days celebration will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Two full days of family fun are being planned by the Creek Club, an organization of community boosters.

The schedule begins Saturday with concessions opening 8 a.m. in Rose Creek City Park. A men’s softball tournament starts play at 8 a.m. Call Al Mullenbach at 437-4283 for more information.

Also Saturday morning, the 2001 Prairie Visions bike ride across Mower County pedals off at 8:30 a.m. in the St. Peter’s Catholic Church parking lot. Call Wendell Sprung at 433-9295 for more information about the bike ride.

Mel Bendtsen is organizing the adult coed volleyball tournament in city park, beginning at 9 a.m. July 14. For more information, call Bendtsen at 433-3362.

Pam Nelson is organizing the teen coed volleyball tournament that begins today and continues through the weekend. Call Nelson at 433-2655 for more information.

Dave Whalen (433-1039) is organizing a car show. Registration begins 9 a.m. Saturday in city park. The car show judging will take place 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Golfers can try their skill and luck at winning a new car or pickup truck in a special Hole-In-One Golf Challenge, beginning 10 a.m. Saturday.

A "shoot-out" for prizes will be held beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, when the Hole-In-One Golf Challenge concludes.

Throughout the day, there will be children’s games and activities in city park, including a moonwalk, chair swing and train rides.

Joe Landherr (433-8799) is organizing a horseshoe tournament, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

A special kiddie parade through the downtown area will take place at 1 p.m. under the direction of Lynette Mullenbach (437-4283). Afterward, there will be organized kids games, too.

Volunteer firefighters will test their skills on the nozzle and hose in the waterball fights on main street, beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Mark Schmit at 437-2559 is organizing the teams. Area volunteer fire departments will want to compete for "bragging rights" and being declared the best hosers around.

The Barta Kids Pedal Tractor Pull, a sanctioned event, takes place at 4 p.m., when the chicken fry begins in city park.

Three Days Later will provide the music for a dance on the tennis court in city park beginning at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Sunday schedule includes more concessions in city park, beginning 9 a.m. plus the conclusion of the men’s softball and adult volleyball tournaments.

For the children, there will be a bean bag tournament at 2 p.m.

Bike ride coming

The third annual Shooting Star Trail Bike Ride take place Saturday.

The ride begins in the parking lot at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rose Creek, with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the ride at 8:30 a.m.

The ride choices include a 19-mile exerciser, 30-mile workout and 52-mile farm and city tour. The entry fee is $15 before July 12 or $18 afterward.

In addition, there is a 6-mile fun ride for which there is no entry fee. Mary Nelson will lead the ride and there will be games for the children at the conclusion of the ride.

Children should be old enough for minimum adult supervision.

Anyone of any age who enjoys ride on a hard-surfaced road may join Nelson and the children on the ride.

Helmets are required for all the rides.

The event is part of the 2001 Rose Creek Fun Days celebration and co-sponsored by Prairie Visions and Southern Minnesota Bike Club.
