The Austin Greyhounds (7-17 overall) had a late letdown in a 9-8 loss at Waseca Wednesday night.
The Hounds led 6-1 in the top of the seventh, but allowed five runs in the bottom of the fifth and two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to lose it.
“We never felt like we were gonna lose. We just didn’t take full advantages of our opportunities,” Greyhounds manager John Frein said. “It didn’t feel right walking way without a win tonight.”
After trailing 7-6 in the eighth, Austin took an 8-7 lead when Matt Cano hit a clutch, two-run, two-out double.
“We thought the game was over there, but they rallied,” Frein said.
The Hounds had a three-run rally cut short in the fourth, when Tim Kaplan was thrown at home on a flyout by John Frein.
