Sharp shooters camp opens next week

The 2008 Sharp Shooter Austin girls basketball camp, featuring former Austin and North Dakota State University standout Lisa Bue, will be held next week at Austin High School.

The camp will run from Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. each day.

The camp is for fifth through ninth graders and is designed for both first time campers as well as players with previous experience.

The camp focuses on individual development, basketball fundamentals, shooting technique and offensive skills.

The camp is directed by Austin head girls varsity basketball coach Gary Peterson and Bue, with help from assistant varsity coaches Kelly Schwenn, Gina Golberg, and Beth Giesen.

Participants will compete in many activities with a chance to win daily prizes. The camp will conclude with an awards ceremony were t-shirts, certificates and ribbons will be handed out.

Bue was a four-year starter at Austin, where she led her team to a 23-5 record and the Class 3A state tournament. She holds the school records for career points (1,592), points in a season (585) and career rebounds (807).

At NDSU, she became the school’s 27th 1,000 point scorer and ranked 19th in all-time Bison history with 1,245 points. She was Summit Player of the year and on the All Summit League first team.
