Hazardous Waste facility open extra hours for flood victims

Due to the flood from last week’s storms, Mower County Household Hazardous Waste will be open extra hours this week for the flood victims. The regular scheduled day for Household Hazardous Waste collection is Wednesday, but due to the flood, the facility will be open by appointment on Thursday and Friday June 19 and 20.

Household Hazardous Wastes are materials from the basement, garage or under the sink, such as paint, paint thinner, stains, varnishes, aerosols, old gasoline, oven cleaner, and pesticides. These items must be sorted from your other waste stream and brought to the County’s Household Hazardous Waste facility at 1111 Eighth Ave. N.E., Austin. The Household Hazardous Waste facility only collects household wastes; no business waste and no agricultural pesticides will be accepted.

Again, Household Hazardous Waste is open for collection on Wednesdays all year round from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. and by special appointment on Thursday and Friday this week only for Mower County flood victims. If you have questions please call 437-9551.
