After a week off, Chateau Speedway back in action

After a week off because of flood waters the Cedar River was back in its banks Friday night so the “Amsoil DIrt Track Racing Series” Action at Chateau Raceway in Lansing, powered by Miners Outdoor Power and Recreation of Blooming Prairie, was able to roll out just its fifth night of racing action during this wet first half of the season. A good field of near ninety cars filled the pits for the nights action in six classes with the “Power 96 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds” leading the way with twenty-two cars on hand.

While the car count for the class was nice it was a number that didn’t call for a Consy event and with everybody surviving there heats all twenty-two cars lined up for the twenty lap feature event which on this night turned out to be to many. Caution after caution slowed the pace of the main event which was eventually cut five laps as the race was dragging on. When they were racing the action was actually good. AJ Wiste of Adams lead the first lap by a nose over Dustin Steinbrink of Austin as the two front row starters put on an exciting first few laps. Steinbrink took over the lead on lap two and lead it through the first few cautions before Greg Pfeifer Jr of Austin used a good run off a restart on lap six to go to the point. Pfefier held the top spot until Albert Wytaske of Lansing went by on lap eleven for a lead he would not give up. Alberts feature win was his second straight at Lansing. Pfefier held on for second ahead of the classes current point leader Kenny Wytaske of Lansing. Steinbrink held on for fourth. The classes three heat winners were Pfeifer, Kenny Wytaske and Dan Wheeler of Columbia Heights.

While the Midwest Modifieds had there troubles two classes were able to run clean caution free feature events. The first to do so was the “Affordable Portables WISSOTA Street Stock” Class. AJ Zvorak of Blooming Prairie darted out of row two to the front on the first lap and lead flag to flag for his first feature win of the season at Lansing. Zvorak had built up a pretty comfortable lead, possibly to comfortable as with just two laps to go he almost gave the race away. Coming through turn four he got the car crossways and ended up in the infield. He straightened the car back up and pulled back on the track about six car lengths ahead of a hard charging Bobby Kilby of Austin. AJ was able to maintain that advantage of the last couple laps to secure the win and a sweep on the night as he also took home one of the classes two heat wins. The other heat win went to Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa.

Also running a clean caution free main event were the big boys, the “Frenchs Repair and Fabrication USRA Modifieds”. Tommy Myer of Blooming Prairie took advantage of front row starting spot to make quick work of getting to the point. After running second for the first lap he went to the front and proceed to walk away from the field for his first feature win of the season at Chateau. Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie, who started along side Myer on the front row came home in second ahead of the two second row starters, Brandy and Shawn Peterson of Cottage Grove. Heat winners were Shawn Peterson and Jacob Dahle of Morristown.

The “Triple J Disposal WISSOTA Super Stocks” had a short field of cars but a large amount of action. Jason Gabrielson of Austin started on the pole and took the learly lead. Jason was working on stretching out his lead when a caution put two hard chargers side by side on his back bumper. Cole Queensland and Ryan Siegle, both of Grand Meadow, however had there hands full with each other as Gabrielson stated to build a lead back up. The two ran side by side for several laps before Siegle slid up into Queensland in turn one. Queensland spun and gathered up Nick Herrick of West Concord whos car slid up onto Coles hood. On the restart Siegle went tail end for causing the yellow and Queensland put the heat on Jason. The two ended up side by side in turn three and some contact between the two seemed to mess up Gabielsons car as he slowed to a halt on the track, requiring a lift from the wrecker to get him back to his trailer. With Queensland now on point Chris Klinger of Austin was working his way toward the front and he caught Cole with just a couple laps to go. Klinger took a few looks inside and outside on Cole and eventually found the inside line to his liking and went low in turns three and four and slipped into the lead as the two came to the white flag. Klinger than held on to join the list of drivers who picked up there first feature win of the year on the night. The classes lone heat win went to Siegle.

In The “Pizza Ranch Pure Stocks” it was yet another drivers getting his first feature win of the season. Billy Steinberg of Kasson won the war of attrition to claim the nights main event. Less than half the cars that started the feature were still around when the checkers fell with about one-third of them going out on a lap nine restart. Leader Tyler Peterson of Hollandale spun in turn four and while the first couple cars missed him after that cars were wrecking all over the corner with Peterson finally getting slammed pretty hard as well as he sat sideways in the corner. Steinberg inherited the lead on the restart and held it the rest of the way as he out distanced Dyland Nelsen of Freeborn for the win. Aaron Sletten of Owatonna took home a third ahead of Samantha Stark of Austin, who lead the first lap of the race, and Dan Klingfus of Rose Creek. Heat winners for the class were Adam Goedeke of Hollandale and Brandon Skalciky of Claremont.

The final feature of the night was the “S and S Auto Salvage Hornet” Main Event. Cody Boverhuis of Geneva drew the pole position for the race and jumped staright to the lead followed by Garitt Wytaske of Lansing. The two were doing a nice job of pulling away from the field until a late caution. The top two were joined by the top two drivers in the point standings Gary Stahl of Kasson and Randy Rauen of Austin. With three to go the group restarted the race with everybody fanning out as they went into turn one. Coming out of two some slight contact ended up sending Boverhuis hard into the wall ending his best run of the season. Off the next restart it was Rauen who would get the good job and go to the point where he went on to score his second feature win of the year. Trae Diaz of Austin outdrove Stahl for second while Michael Wytaske of Lanisng came home in fourth with Dan Weckworth of Albert Lea rounding out the top five. Rauen also took one of the classes two heat wins giving him his second sweep of the season. The other heat went to Jesse Harang of Northwood Iowa.

Racing action in six classes gets under way once again next Friday Night with Hot Laps at 7:15 and Racing at 7:30.
