Raymond E. Gullickson, 78

Ray-mond Engh Gullickson, 78, of Austin, died at Austin Medical Center Wednesday evening, July 23, 2003. He was born January 30, 1925, to George and Valborg (Engh) Gullickson in Spring Valley, Minn., where he lived until 1943. Ray served in the United States Army during WWII. He was wounded in the Philippines on Leyte, receiving the Purple Heart. Ray lived in Minneapolis from 1946 until 1950 and married Dorothy Gene Andersen on September 16, 1950, in Pillager, Minn. They made their home in Austin where he was employed by Hormel Foods Corporation as a mechanical engineer until 1966 and transferred to Fort Dodge, Iowa, and back to Austin in 1973. He retired in 1986. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, Ray belonged to Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post No. 91, University of Minnesota Alumni Association, Habitat for Humanity, Masonic Lodge, Golden K Kiwanis Club and 96th Infantry Division Association.

Ray was a quiet, gentle-natured, generous man. He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, fishing trips to Canada, wintering in Texas, annual Army reunions, and especially enjoyed singing with the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Choir for almost 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Austin; daughters, Carol (Jim) Altergott of Wichita, Kan.; Joan Gullickson of Owatonna; son, David Gullickson of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George; and infant son James.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2003, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roberta Flood and the Rev. Raymond Engh co-officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 27, at the Worlein Funeral Home and at the church one hour before the service on Monday. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.

Memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
