Virginia Miller, 73

Virginia M. Miller, age 73, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 5:20 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2003, at her home after a long illness.

Born March 8, 1930, in Dodge Center, Minn., she was the daughter of the late Warner Hansen and Selma Feldt Hansen. She graduated from Austin Central High School. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Lansing, Minn.

She was married to Leland Miller at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on June 5, 1955. After a brief wedding trip, they resided in Independence, Kan. They later moved to Ulysses, Kan., where they lived until 1962 when they moved to Joplin, Mo.

While living in Joplin, Virginia was active caring for handicapped children and for some years worked at the C.P. Center on Jackson Street and also worked at Empire Nursing Home for about five years. She was a member of the Women's Division of the former International Typographical Union.

Virginia enjoyed traveling and loved seeing things of nature. She cherished her family and friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a brother, Richard Hansen of Waseca, Minn.; six sisters, Mary Blanchard, Hazel Schneider, Helen Malchow, Lorraine Freitag, all of Austin, Minn., Fern Vietze of Albert Lea, Minn., Lucille Teats of St. Paul, Minn. and Lavonne Kasten of LeRoy, Minn.

Virginia's body will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Parker Chapel, Joplin, Mo., with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Family will receive friends following the services. Private interment at Ozark Memorial Park will be held at a later date.

Carol L. Klein, 69

Carol LaBonna Klein, age 69, of Austin, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at her home.

Carol was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Waltham, Minn., to Evered and Esther (Badenschier) Seavey.

She married Vincent Klein in May of 1955 at St. Augustine Church. Mrs. Klein was a homemaker.

Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren. She wrote poems about each of them, as well as many other loved ones. Carol loved to travel, collecting many souvenirs along the way. She enjoyed attending services at St. Augustine Church, especially Midnight Christmas Mass. Carol was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed many good times there with her friends. Her unique sense of humor and loving personality will truly be missed.

Survivors include her children: Michelle (Pat) Sullivan, Huntington, Mass.; David (Barbara) Klein, Milaca, Minn.; Todd (Claudia) Klein, Schweinfurt, Germany; Renee (Brad) Morreim, Champlin, Minn.; Randy (Angela) Klein, Austin, Minn.; and Christine Klein (Marquette Turner) Austin, Minn. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Eric Betzler, Casey Klein, Jacob Morreim, Jordan Klein, Rebecca Morreim, Madison Klein; and two great-grandchildren: Karley Betzler and Kristin Betzler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at St. Augustine Church, Austin, Minn., at 10:30 a.m. with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW Rosary and 6:30 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Chuck Badenschier, Norma VanEsch, Eric Betzler, Steve Wilson, Dan Waltz and Jean Ball.
