Main Street: LeRoy prepares for fund-raiser, festival

Published 12:00 am Thursday, June 26, 2003

Saturday, LeRoy is having its third annual Basket Auction at Hotel LeRoy. This has become an annual fund-raiser for the LeRoy Old Time Summerfest. Baskets have been donated filled with home made goodies, crafts, wine and money. This year's auction chair, Judy Jasper, who is also the LeRoy postmistress, hopes to have about 40 baskets donated this year. Last year's auction raised $5,000 for the Summerfest.

"My son, Jim Jasper is the auctioneer and he makes the basket auction a lot of fun. The first year we had 50 baskets donated, last year 70. We get a lot of baskets filled with baked goods. Last year I bought a basket with a homemade pie. I paid $45 for it and my son ate the pie. I didn't get one piece," Jasper laughed.

Besides the homemade goodie baskets there are baby blankets and homemade quilts to be auctioned.

"We have some surprises in store for Saturday night. A riding horse will be auctioned off too

This is a night to put spirit back in the town. You don't want to miss it," Jasper said.
