Lyle to celebrate the Fourth early

More vendors, more entertainment and more classic cars and tractors are coming to this weekend's Lyle Independence Day Celebration.

The Lyle Celebration Committee has put together a schedule of event that includes old favorites -- tractor pulls, street dances and good food -- but included a few new events and vendors.

Storyteller Mike Cotter will be in City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The tractor and truck pull has added another class to its competition, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. A new kettle corn and ice cream vendor will be new among the food vendors in City Park.

"Every year, it just gets a little bit bigger," said Diana DeBoer, city clerk and celebration committee member.

The Independence Day Celebration has been held the weekend before the Fourth of July since about 1995, DeBoer said. That year the town celebrated its 125th anniversary and the festival has been held on the previous weekend every since, she said.

And just in time for the celebration, mosquito spraying will take place at 9 tonight, weather permitting, DeBoer said.
