The Austin tennis team concluded a rocky regular season with two third place finishes at the Big 9 Championships Saturday in Rochester.

Rochester Mayo was the overall team champion, with the Packers coming in ninth.

Austin No. 1 Mike Binder won his first match against Albert Lea for their only singles win of the day, but then lost in the second round. No. 3 Dolan Wagner dropped a tough three-setter to West's Sam McCullough, who he had defeated earlier in the week.

Austin had more success in doubles. Its top duo of Tucker Schieck and Andy Sundal recovered from an opening round loss to win their next two matches, capturing the consolation championship. The No. 3 team of Tyler Green and Tyler Conway, one of the bright spots of the season for the Packers, also came away with a consolation championship by sweeping through their last three matches without dropping a set. The Packer No. 2 squad of Jack Lynch and Luke Green scored a victory in their second match after falling in the first round in three sets.

The Packers begin sectional play tomorrow in Eagan.
