The last regular column of the season is marked by two near-misses at perfection. Both occurred on Tuesday and came from separate divisions.
First, Sue Stoltenberg from the Happy Hour league started with a split in the first frame and then strung the last 11 strikes for a season-high of 279 in the WIBC division. She finished her total with a 665 series to also top the year's WIBC totals.
Later that evening, Jeff Bennett started with the first 11 strikes only to leave a solid 4-pin on his final ball for a 299 game to lead the ABC division. His night's total of 698 also led the division for the week.
Joe Bushlack came out on top of the junior major league with a 599 series and 258 game. Derek Bultman was right behind with a 595 series. Natalie Wagner rolled a big total in the prep division with a 491 series and 195 game.
The senior ladies wrapped up their year with Nadine Wehrhan leading them with a 539 series and Barb Frances with a 212 game. Most leagues are finishing up in the next few weeks. The honor roll of scores for the year will be published on the last Monday in April.
The Scotch Doubles Tournament was held March 30. There were 19 couples participating in a four-game format. Al Smith and Lori Olund were the winners of this year's event.
The next event is the annual Mapleview No-Tap couple's tournament. No league average is necessary to compete. Contact the front desk at Echo Lanes for sign-up information.
