The Riverland tennis team headed indoors because of high winds in Mankato, emerging with a 6-3 win over Bethany Lutheran Monday afternoon.
"I thought we played a very nice match today," said Riverland head coach Suzy Hebrink. "Playing indoors helped us get away from the wind and heat, which was helpful."
Gretchen Hansen disposed of Bethany's top player Chelsea Bankston with ease, 6-2 and 6-1. At the bottom of the lineup, Brie Bednar and Mel Sheedy scored easy wins as well, with Sheedy recording the elusive double-bagel.
Tiffany Ankeny put together an impressive comeback from 5-2 down in the second set to force a tiebreak, which she won to top Karina Harstad 6-2, 7-6.
In doubles play, Riverland won two of three matches, with Hansen and Ankeny winning their pro set 8-2 and Sheedy and Brie Bednar triumphing 8-5.
Snyder and Zastoupil almost put together a clean sweep for the Blue Devils, but Purtz and Harstad won the tiebreak 7-3.
For the mens' team, Andy Stouvenel played some strong tennis but ended up dropping an 8-5 pro set to Ramon Pinero.
"We're showing some signs of fatigue because of all the matches we've played lately," Hebrink said, "so tomorrow should be interesting. Hopefully we can still move around the court."
The 5-1 Lady Blue Devils host Ridgewater this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. for their fourth match in five days.
