Hold off for now on bonding bill

The argument was made that the passage of a large bonding bill would help jump start our state's ailing economy.

But legislators made a prudent move Thursday in the Senate by holding off passing $417 million worth of building projects.

Many could argue the projects would directly impact our area. There's no doubt about that.

Locally, continued expansion of the Shooting Star Trail would likely be one of the projects which would benefit from the bill. Although we'd like to see the expansion, how responsible would that be when the state's finances are deeply in debt?

Many projects in the bonding bill are worthy ones indeed. However, now's not the time to spend large amounts of taxpayer dollars on them.
