The Salvation Army recently handed out food baskets and toys to needy and deserving families in the Austin area.

Major Doug Yeck said the group has noticed an influx this year in more people requesting assistance.

Whether it's donations for food, toys or assistance in paying a utility bill, local residents can help out by making a donation.

Even if you don't decide to donate until after Christmas, the group will happily accept any help, as many of its resources will be depleted or not as well stocked as before the holidays.

Your assistance will help someone's holiday or season become brighter.
