Paramount plays host to band

Monroe Crossing, a Blue Grass and Gospel band, will perform Sunday at the historic Paramount Theatre. The show is set for 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per person.

This award-winning band has appeared on Prairie Home Companion and at the Minnesota State Fair. They will be performing uplifting gospel, traditional bluegrass and original songs.

The band is named in honor of Bill Monroe, the &uot;Father of Bluegrass.&uot; Monroe Crossing performs music from first generation masters, as well as more contemporary and original selections. Each member has been a featured instrumentalist in other bands.

Their major emphasis is on their vocals, with everyone contributing to carefully arranged lead and harmony parts. Their music is for bluegrass fans or any music lover. They do classic burners, teary waltzes, heartfelt originals and reverent Gospel numbers.

There are other weekend events scheduled, including a 10 a.m. Saturday ground-breaking ceremony that will involve the Freeborn-Mower County affiliate of Habitat For Humanity. The ceremony marks the group's 18th housing project.

Sunday, Boy Scout Troop 109 will host a chili supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The event takes place at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Cost for adults is $5 and $4 for seniors and children under 11.
