Luella J. McFarlin, 77

Luella June McFarlin, 77, of Blooming Prairie, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born June 24, 1925, to Jonas and Minnie Amanda (Stein) Nelson in Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1943.

On Dec. 26, 1943, she married Maurice "Mac" McFarlin in Glenwood. They lived in Glenwood, Little Fork and Blooming Prairie.

A housewife, Luella was an active member of United Methodist Church in Blooming Prairie where she sang in the choir. She also belonged to the Eastern Star and was a Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include sons, Col. Michael (Susan) McFarlin, South Riding, Va.; Steven (Judy) McFarlin, Starbuck; daughters, Jacqueline (James) Trotman, Blooming Prairie; Roberta (Dean) Lembke, Northfield; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian Forbord, Circle Pine; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Jan. 28, 2002; and brother, Howard, in infancy.

Visitation: One hour before the service at church.

Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at United Methodist Church in Blooming Prairie with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating.

Interment: Blooming Prairie Cemetery.

Fielding S. Holmes, 40

Fielding "Fred" Stephen Holmes, of Austin, formerly of Owatonna, died Oct. 30, 2002, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He was born March 1, 1962, in Kansas City, Kan., to Fielding and Marcia (Johnson) Holmes.

He was a member of Owatonna High School graduating class of 1981. He continued his education at Austin Vo-Tech from 1982 to 1984, studying carpentry and sales and marketing. He then went to work for R.C. Bliss Ford in Faribault as part of their sales team. Later he worked at Usem's Chevrolet and Mel Saxton Ford in Austin, also in sales. For the past five years he worked at Hormel Foods.

He enjoyed spending time with his son doing outdoor activities, such as camping. He also enjoyed carpentry work and woodcarving. He was a former member of the Jay-Cees.

Survivors include son, Jake Holmes, Austin; Jake's mother, Janet Lamack, Austin; parents, Fielding and Marcia Holmes, Owatonna; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Susan Holmes, Medford, Ore.; Lee Ann and Johnny Fugaban, St. Paul; Marie Prigge, Red Wing; nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church on Sunday. There will be no reviewal.

Service: 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 512 South Elm, Owatonna, with the Rev. Thomas Hargesheimer officiating.

Interment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Owatonna.

Lauren N. Grant, 76

Lauren Nathan Grant, 76, of Corning, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Prairie Manor, Blooming Prairie.

He was born July 23, 1926, to Leonard H. and Netha S. (Erickson) Grant in Austin.

He graduated from Austin High School in 1944 and married Orlie Tollefson on Aug. 11, 1946, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church.

A farmer in Udolpho and Newry Townships his entire life, Lauren raised Grade A dairy cattle for 36 years. He was secretary of Red Oak Grove Creamery Association, Red Oak Grove Cemetery Association, Blooming Prairie Elevator; director of Freeborn-Mower County Electric Co-op; foreman of Greenview Rest Area on Interstate 90; charter member and president of Mower County Farmers Union.

He enjoyed traveling and made many trips in the United States and foreign countries. He enjoyed family and friends.

Survivors include wife, Orlie Grant, rural Austin; sons, Daniel Grant, Owatonna; David (Sandra) Grant, Austin; daughters, Martha Feda, Burnsville; Caroline Dahms, Owatonna; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Ordean (Eileen) Grant, St. Charles; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at the funeral home and Monday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Monday, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin with the Rev. Bruce Falksen officiating.

Interment: Red Oak Grove Cemetery.
