The LeRoy/Ostrander School District will be able to maintain its current programs, despite declining enrollment, after its operating referendum passed Tuesday.

Of the 1,016 people who voted, 537 voted yes and 479 voted no. The approval means the district will receive $300 more per pupil. Currently, 386 are enrolled, but administrators predict enrollment will decrease in the next two years, said Barb Hovde, the district business manager.

"We were very happy. It was nice to see the support," Hovde said.

Property taxes in the district will be raised $1 per $1,000 of value. Property valued at $50,000, for example, would pay $50 more a year for the 10 years the bond lasts.

Because it is only an operating levy, not a building levy, farmers are taxed only on their house, garage and one acre.
