Avon products are now available at Oak Park Mall thanks to a new store, which opened Tuesday.

After being open for only two days, Carla McCarthy, its owner, said there has been a steady flow of customers.

McCarthy has been an Avon representative for 18 years. She used to sell its products at the mall during the holiday season and decided to open a permanent store.

"A lot of people say it's good to see I'm finally back," McCarthy said.

Avon approached McCarthy about opening a store. The Avon stores are rare in the United States.

Customers can purchase most of the Avon products that are in the catalog at the store, but products from other franchises, such as Barbies or Precious Moments, have to be ordered. McCarthy orders the products they do not carry for their customers.

McCarthy said she has stayed with Avon because she believes in the products and trusts the company.

"I don't think it's good just because I sell it. I use it and I know it's good," McCarthy said.

McCarthy is not new to the retail business, either. She has owned Carla's Finish Line for three years, which has racing-related merchandise. That store is located across from her Avon store.

"Between the two, there's something for everybody," she said.

Avon is not just for women, she said, adding that it offers a men's line.

"We have got excellent products. Compare them to any other products on the market. It's a really good product and it's not expensive," McCarthy said.

McCarthy also said she is happy with her location.

"It's a nice mall. I would pick this mall over any other," she said.
