Austin#039;s Pilot competes in U.S. Women#039;s Mid-Am

Claudia Pilot of Austin competed in the 16th Annual U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Champion-ship in Eugene, Ore., last week, bowing out to an eventual semifinalist.

Pilot won her first two rounds of match play before being knocked out of the tournament by Lyn Nelson, of Half Moon Bay, Calif., in the round of 16.

Pilot defeated Lynn Anderson of Edina in the opening round, 3-and-1, and advanced for a win over Laura Shanahan-Rowe of Bedford, N.H., 2-up.

Nelson, who was the eventual runner-up to champion Kathy Hartwiger, defeated Pilot on the first extra hole.

The U.S. Women's Mid-Am is one of 13 National Championship events by the United States Golf Association.
