School board to discuss discipline, class size issues

Published 12:00 am Monday, September 23, 2002

The Austin Public School Board will meet this afternoon to discuss a new discipline plan for Sumner Elementary, proposed by Principal Kimberly Howard.

Howard explains that in meeting with faculty and staff members at Sumner, she learned they would like to see discipline improved at Sumner. Howard's plan for this includes the issuance of "Stop and Think" tickets for inappropriate behavior and varying consequences for each ticket, depending on the behavior and the number of tickets already received during the school year.

The board also will discuss recommendations from the Finance and Personnel Committees for fourth grade class sizes.
