David N. Dickson, 59

David N. Dickson, age 59, of Austin, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at his home.

David was born March 5, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo., to Bert L. and Mary E. (Falstrom) Dickson.

David earned his BA and MBA degrees from Stanford University where, as an undergraduate, he also competed in inter-collegiate athletics as a member of the Indians' freshman and varsity baseball teams.

He was united in marriage to Joanne Lindsey on Sept. 11, 1965, and thereafter returned to South Pasadena to raise their own family. Their son, Jeffrey ('86), was a member of SPHS's first CIF championship water polo team, and their daughter, Cheryl, graduated from SPHS in 1988.

After completing his education, David joined the Carnation Company where he became an executive vice president and a member of its board of directors. Joanne was an active volunteer in such organizations as the Pasadena Boys Choir, South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, South Pasadena Little League, and SPEF, and she was instrumental in bringing the anti-drug program "Parent Alert" to South Pasadena. In 1989, David and Joanne moved to Austin, Minn., where David took a position with Hormel Foods, Inc. as group vice president (International, Strategic Planning, and Hormel Health Labs). After nearly 12 years and extensive travel throughout the Far East and Europe, David retired from Hormel in June 2001.

Survivors include his wife: Joanne Dickson, Austin; son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Gail Dickson, Glen Elyn, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law: Cassandra and Mike Stajduhar, Lincoln, Neb.; two grandchildren: Garrett and Paige Dickson; sister and brother-in-law: Nancy and Jim Chamberlain, Fallbrook, Calif.

A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Oneota Congregational Church, 1515 Garfield Ave. S, South Pasadena, CA 91030, (626) 799-6161.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Mayer Funeral Home, followed by a reception at the Dickson family home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hubert W. Barclay Jr., 58

Hubert W. "Butch" Barclay Jr., 58, of Austin, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1944, in Austin, to Hughbert W. and Bertha (Johnson) Barclay.

On Jan. 18, 1964, he married Beverly Stevenson at the First United Methodist Church in Austin.

Butch lived in Lyle with numerous jobs including: Ken's Standard and Dibble's Pontiac. He worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere, Ill., the Austin Park and Rec and drove the Austin Public Library Bookmobile.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, camping and woodworking.

Survivors include wife, Beverly Barclay, Austin; daughter, Rita Barclay and Harry Hayden, Austin; sons, Tim and Jill Barclay, Rochester; Michael Barclay, Lake Mills, Iowa; Donald Barclay, Beloit, Wis.; four grandchildren; brothers, Floyd and Ann Barclay, Chicago, Ill.; Duane and Bev Barclay, Rockford, Ill.; Kenny and Debbie Barclay, Rockford, Ill.; Keith Barclay, St. Louis, Mo.; Rodney and Mary Barclay, Austin; sisters, Ramona and Gene Harne, Rockford, Ill.; Loretta and John Johnson, Rockford, Ill.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother and sister.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the funeral home and Saturday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. The casket bearers will be Randy Mays, Rick Karge, Gene Kline, David Kline, Gaylord Johnson and Donald Wiechart.

Interment: Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle.
