A team of Austin High School class of 2002 men's basketball players won the first-ever Austin High Alumni Challenge tournament.

The full-court 5-on-5 games took place Saturday in historic Ove Berven gymnasium with the championship game played in Packer Gymnasium. All teams played a minimum of four games before the championship contest.

The winners included members of the 2000 and 2001 AHS boys basketball teams as well as 2002 players.

A team from the class of 1999 finished second in the tournament.

Also participating were players from 1993, 1991, 1976 and 1973.

Called the "Quest for the Scarlet Crest," the tournament will benefit an Austin High School sports charity, according to the organizers, Elliot T. Christensen and Ryan R. Bonorden. "Proceeds from the tournament will be donated as soon as expenses are paid," according to Christensen.

The organizers also said they plan to hold another tournament for AHS basketball alumni in 2003. More details will be shared with this year's participants in a newsletter to be published soon.
